A month from the end of the semester...

 Hello All!

With us being only a few weeks away from the end of the semester, I thought I would give you all some information about Thanksgiving, Finals, Interim, and Spring.

During the week of Thanksgiving, we will close at 5PM that Wednesday and reopen on Sunday at 4PM.

All-Night Study for Finals begins December 2nd (technically Friday morning) at midnight!  The library will be open until Saturday at 10PM, reopen at 10AM on Sunday and remain open until 2AM Wednesday, the 8th.  On Wednesday, we will reopen at 7AM and close at 8PM.

As no one here has worked All-Night Study, here is a breakdown: 

• An officer and I or another staff member will start to sign people in around 11:30 PM each night.  We'll be using an excel document that we scan peoples' Texan cards and it marks both the entry and exit times of that person. (Texan cards are required for entry). 
• The person working the desk will be responsible for playing the announcements at 11:30PM.  
• At midnight, one of us will go around and make sure everyone is checked in.  
• The circulation desk stays business as usual until 2 AM.  After that, we only check out laptop chargers using handcheck forms until the "opener" comes in at 7.  Your job during those hours is to aid the officer by covering their desk when they do rounds.  You do not need to do walkthroughs during the overnight hours, the checkin has that covered!

A couple things to know about finals....
1.  After midnight, you are allowed to do homework and have a laptop or tablet at the desk.
2.  There are many hours in which there is only one student worker here.  Unfortunately, with how everyone's finals were scheduled, this had to happen.  With that said, when there are two people here, please continue doing tasks up in the stacks per usual.  Having someone upstairs, especially at night, helps us to monitor what is going on.
3.  Finally, people tend to be a bit more ummmm.... testy during this period.  Don't take their behavior personally, but also don't be afraid to get a supervisor to help you out.

The library will be open the rest of December (until the 24th) and the first part of January.  The December hours are 8AM-5PM, Monday through Friday, and Noon-5PM on the weekends.  (We're still waiting to get approval on the January hours).

Please get your Spring availability to Jacob and I ASAP.  We are going to try and have the schedule figured out before we leave on holiday break the later part of December.  Classes for the Spring semester start January 13th.
