Checking out to non-Tarleton people

Non-Tarleton people who can check out books from the library:

  • Friends members (who have a current membership)
  • TexShare users (Must have the card and it must be current)
  • Alumni (This one is tricky because they need to be able to show something that states they are a paid alumni member)

Friends memberships can be purchased at the circulation desk. If you are unsure of how to do one, please get a supervisor. The basic cost of a membership is $40 for an annual membership. There are other levels and if they want to do something different refer them to the Friends of the Dick Smith Library webpage.

TexShare users must have a current card from another library. There are many public libraries that offer TexShare cards; Stephenville Public Library is in town and if they have lived in the area for six months or more, they should be able to get one from them.

Alumnus can check out books if they have paid their annual alumni dues. They must be able to show a receipt or an email stating that they have paid their fees. It is best if they visit Monday - Friday, 8-5 and speak to a supervisor.

We recently had a situation where someone came in on the weekend and told staff that they were an alumni. Someone who was unfamiliar with the procedure created an account in Sirsi on the fly. It was not the correct thing to do and now I have no contact information for the person. The account just shows the person's name and the items they checked out.

If in doubt, please contact a supervisor.
