New library room reservation program

Be on the lookout for a welcome email from LibCal, our new room reservation program.  You will each need to register and create a password.  Kim is going to go over this program individually with you, so please register but do not start making reservations.  I will blog in the next week or so to let you know when you have permission to make real reservations in the new program.  Right now, we’re just using it for training.

This new program will allow students to book the group study rooms and practice presentation room online from home, so we’re excited to transition soon.  We’re shooting for August 20th to go live with the new program.  The MP Room is also open to the public, but it’s mediated by library staff to make sure people adhere to our policies.  Like before, only faculty/staff and student organizations can book the MP Room.

NOTE: The one major drawback from this program is that I cannot limit which rooms your LibCal account has access to.  Before, our room program simply denied you if you tried to book the MP Room, Training Center or tables.  Now, while you should only ever book 225, 231 and the PPR, you now also have access to the MP Room, Training Center, and tables.  You will hear this many times in the coming weeks: DO NOT book these spaces.  The training center should only be booked by Cathy, Yvonne, or Josh.  The MP Room and tables should only be booked by Jacob, Kim, Ginger or myself.  If someone calls for either of these spaces, please refer them as necessary to the appropriate people.

Thanks guys!  I’m excited to start rolling with the new program.  And the best part? It won’t time you out!!
