Retirees

Last Friday we were notified about a complaint from a retiree who went to the Provost, upset that the library denied her borrowing privileges.  I have no idea who she spoke with, or if it was even a library employee, but I thought this was a good time to remind you all that retirees continue to have minimal lifetime borrowing privileges after they retire from Tarleton.  It's the same as Friends or TexShare members, where they can check out 5 items at a time.  Unfortunately, they won't have ILL or access to databases from home due to licensing agreements.

Before Workday, we had retirees load in Sirsi automatically which helped eliminate confusion.  That does not seem to be the case now that the campus switched to Workday (we're looking into this).  So we're issuing printed cards for retirees now just like we do Friends.  They should still have a Texan Card that states they're a retiree to present if they're checking out for the first time (if not, get a supervisor and we can verify their retiree status).  Then you just need to fill out a hand check form and give it to a supervisor.  From there, we'll create an account in Sirsi and mail them a card.  Retirees must present the card along with a photo ID to verify their identity when they check out materials.

It is very rare that retirees borrow materials from us, so this is one of those oddball things we just have to keep in the back of our brains. But when in doubt, ask a supervisor!
