Survey Response 1

Will the headphones be taken away to all the workers permanently?  I feel as though all of us should not be punished for the actions of one or two people. It makes working in the stacks much more enjoyable.

At this time the headphone privileges are being revoked for all Circulation student workers.  The problems we’ve had being able to get a student’s attention in the stacks applies to the majority of the group, not just one or two people.  This change isn’t meant to be a punishment to you so much as expanding customer service to patrons, who are our main priority.  We want you to be approachable while working in the stacks so you can aid a patron if needed.  You’d be surprised at how many patrons won’t even consider walking up to you because you had headphones in.

We all need to be focusing on the needs of our users. Given that time spent in the stacks is relatively short, generally an hour at a time, we believe that the benefits to our users outweigh the enjoyment of our staff using headphones.
