Some changes in Sirsi

Since introducing the new laptop vending machine we have come to realize some things in Sirsi weren't working as anticipated.  Laptops cannot actually be fined by the minute like we thought they could.  So until the Sirsi developers help get things rolling correctly, we're going to have to change the structure of our fines.  The new system is as follows:

Late fees will be assessed at $15.00/hour increments, after initial 15 minute grace period.
15+ minutes late = $15.00.
60+ minutes late = $30.00, etc.

So as soon as the initial 15 minutes is over, the student will have a $15 fine.  We will no longer be making one time fine reductions since we have lowered the overall fine rate.  Once they are charged in Sirsi it stays.  I know it's a bit weird so please ask questions if you're confused.  You will be expected to explain this to patrons when they are confused.

Another oddity lately is with the marker checkouts.  The system decided to start checking markers out for four days instead of until closing.  The only way I have found to get it back within the same day is to switch the item to a four hour checkout.  Be sure to tell students when they check out the markers that they are due back in four hours in order to prevent fines.  Up until now I have been forgiving the fines but since the change will now be permanent, fines will stand in the future.
