What's up with the little q???? I have an explanation...
Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, the oversized music books were shelved in a different location. A lowercase q was placed in front of the first call letter to designate it as such. Now that we have all the M's in one section, ignore the small q. Basically you can follow the rule of just paying attention to uppercase letters on the first line of the call number.
Why does this matter?
I found this book in the QM section by accident last night. It had been missing since 2013. Someone unknowingly shelved it as a QM instead of the actual M.
Another Shelving Tip:
If you are unsure of the call number, look and see if the book is similar to the books you are shelving it next to. The example above was a music book mixed in with books about the muscular and skeletal systems. Red flag.
If you have any questions on reading call numbers or shelving, please see Kym or Blu. Don't be afraid to ask if you are unsure, we are here to help.
Thanks,
Blu
