Additional Reminders & Bandwidth Restrictions

Welcome back to all the student workers that were gone over the summer! I hope everyone has a great fall semester. I just wanted to add a few additional reminders.

1. Please do not allow your friends to hang out at the circulation desk. You will be surprised how many people will not approach the desk to ask for help if they see you visiting with your friends. You can tell them hello, but then send them on their way.
2. There should be NO cell phones at the circulation desk/while on the clock. Please keep them behind the counter. If you have an emergency where you need to be near your phone please make us aware of it.
3. The following explains how long of a break you get depending on what you work.
            4 hours = 15 minute break
5+ hours = 30 minute lunch/or two 15 minute breaks at least 2 hours apart.
You may leave the building during your 30 minute break, if you choose to do so, you will need to clock out, otherwise you may remain on the clock.
4. Please listen for the gate alarm. Many times it is just a stuffie that has slid out of the pocket, or they are using it as a bookmark. If they do have a book, just scan it under the "check item status" icon. This will let you know if it is checked out or not. If it says "route to stacks" it isn't checked out.
 5. If someone stops by the desk and asks if we have a certain book or that they need help with research --- send them to the reference desk! This also includes all printer questions. The best way to help someone is to get them to the people who can help them the best.
6. In order to ensure we do not get a virus on the circulation computers, the only webpages that are allowed are: the circulation webpages, ILL webpage, room reservation system, when to work, Tarleton email, and any Tarleton webpages (blackboard/gateway/overdrive/ etc.)
 7. Homework is not allowed at the desk during the daytime. The only time homework is allowed is weekends and at nights when it is slow. Since mostly only Tarleton webpages are allowed for internet usage, you can bring your laptop to work on during the weekends or to use after midnight. However, only use it at the front desk rather than behind the wall. Both of these only apply if the desk is not busy. Make the patrons your first priority!
8. Always feel free to ask questions! We are here to help!
Speaking of internet, until around October there will bandwidth restrictions due to them working on the internet in order to increase the bandwidth. This is campus wide. If you get any complaints, please explain to them that it is only temporarily and that everything should be back to normal by October. This will mainly affect users trying to stream videos or be on social media, and may cause some lagging on other websites.
Thanks Everyone! Lets have a great semester!
