New semester, new groups, new responsibilities

Hello everyone!  This is a long and important post so please read all the way through and ask questions if you are unclear.

First, as you can tell from the bulletin board, the teams and areas have changed upstairs and downstairs. Team Red is responsible for stacks 1-14, Team Blue has 15-38, Team Green has 39-53, and Team Orange is in charge of the basement.  (The stack numbers can be found on the range marker on each stack under the call numbers)  I have written the starting point in the binders, so hopefully there is no confusion.

Because of each group being responsible for a lot more area, we are getting rid of fronting and straightening so we can focus on more important tasks.  Plus, you should always be fronting anyway as you dust, inventory, and shelve.  Furthermore, I know a lot of you straighten books that you notice are a bit out of place when you walk by them, and I appreciate that.

Second, we are now in charge of the basement.  We will have a crew down there doing stack maintenance.  Openers will now have to check those stacks as well as the upstairs ones.  Additionally, we will also have to check for used books throughout the day.  There are two carts that are for used books, but patrons have also been trained to put books they have used on the bottom shelf of the stacks as well.

Being in charge of the basement means we also need to shelve those books.  All of you will have to learn how to shelve downstairs as the need arises.  We will continue to put books on the black cart, and then double discharge to the tan cart behind the wall.  The only change to this process is that we will now create a shelving cart from this cart.  We will follow the same cart creating rules and procedures that we do for books that go upstairs.

This is new for everyone, so please bear with us!  If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please share them with Kim and me.

Thank you all for everything you do!  Good luck with the start of the semester!
