With the end of the third week of class, there is a few things we want to remind everyone about.
1. Working at the desk. It is our expectation that you all do more than just read the entire hour at the desk. There is an entire page of things that can be done while at the desk. Not to mention, shelving carts that can be made. I have come in multiple times this week to find both carts at the desk filled with books, no shelving carts made, and every marker I test to checkout to someone completely dead. And remember, when two people are here, one is upstairs and one is working the desk.
2. Creating a basement cart. As soon as you see that half of that top row is filled on the cart behind the wall, create a basement cart. With the books being so small, even that amount of books can take some time to cart, especially as we all get used to shelving downstairs.
3. Reference sheet. Make sure you are tallying up the reference sheet when you finish your desk shift and trade off with the next person at the desk. Also, make sure to mark down EACH question that you get. If you didn't have any, DON'T LEAVE IT BLANK. Put a zero in the spot so we know you didn't forget.
4. Checking the MPR and PPR. The PPR and MPR need to be checked by staff as soon as the group has returned the bag. This is to make sure that the technology is off and that we catch any damage to the room as soon as it happens.
5. And finally, communication. Be sure you are communicating with the other person you are on shift with. Always confer who is on the desk and who is upstairs, what reservations do we have upcoming that hour, special information that needs to be relayed, etc.
We really do appreciate all that you guys do, the library truly would fall into chaos if it wasn't for all your hard work. However, we can always strive to do a better job.
Also, speaking of communication, some of you may have noticed that some peoples Texan cards are not scanning correctly in Sirsi. It is a known problem that we are trying to get fixed. The real issue is if they are trying to check out a laptop, it won't let them and there is really nothing we can do. They can still use a desktop computer. If you remember, please take down their name so that we can keep track of the issue.
