Hello Everyone,
Firstly, we are glad to have you back with us for another great semester and we are excited to see everyone again! Some things have changed since you have been gone (unless you have been working with us during the summer, then you already know) and I want to not only let you know about the new things that have gone on since spring 2022, but also I want to remind you all of a few frequently asked questions and possible errors that you may encounter after just returning from your summer away.
Regarding changes that have occurred in the library, Alejandra is no longer here and McKenna and Brandon are now in charge of ILL. If you get any questions about ILL that you are unable to answer, please go to them for assistance. As Alejandra was also the backup to the Circ Desk, you will now refer to McKenna or Tracy if Brandon or I are not available to help.
Another change is that librarians will now be manning the Reference Desk (behind the Circ Desk or at the Periodicals Desk) until 9 PM Sunday through Thursday. Be sure to direct any reference or research questions you get at the desk to them. A librarian will also be closing Friday evenings until we are able to find a second Graduate Assistant.
The final new thing that you will notice is that many of the lights have been altered to auto-lights. This change has been... interesting... but it will mainly affect closing staff. Please let us know if you see any light fixtures acting weirdly or that appear to be out.
Now that the new stuff is out of the way, I want to remind you all of some things you may encounter as you are working the desk or up in the stacks.
The printing system has been a bit buggy due to a system update that occurred last week. While it has been reported that MOST of the issues have been resolved, students who are having trouble with swiping their Texan Card at the printer stations will need to try typing in their information manually or attempt to use the mobile print site to force the job through without using their card.
Finally, we are experiencing an issue where scanning an ID will result in the patron not being found. This is usually due to the number on their card being different when compared to what we have in the system. If this happens while your at the desk, please take the patrons name and UID down on a piece of paper and leave it on either mine or Brandon's desk so that we can report it.
If you have any questions or need a refresher on any of the duties you will be doing at the Circ Desk (IE setting reservation times, printing, inputting questions) PLEASE let us know. We cannot wait to work with you all for another great semester.
-Jacob M.
