Closing the Library

Over the summer there have been a couple issues with circulation students closing the library.  As we adjust to the Fall semester, please remember that it is not likely that you will get to clock out before midnight.  Patrons will be staying late studying and it might take time to get them out, which will make it take longer for the person working the reference desk to finish closing.  While those of you that close are scheduled until officially until midnight, this is approximate.  You are scheduled to help close the library and that means you do not leave until you are authorized to do so.

The Reference Department has selected a couple students to help close this semester while they are trying to hire a GA.  You are to help out in whatever way they ask to assist in closing, but do not rush or pressure others to get out faster.  This is disrespectful and can lead to more mistakes being made.  Just assume that you might be working until 12:05 or 12:10am regularly, and that way getting off early is a perk on the rare occasion the library is slow.  You don't need to be asking when you'll be allowed to clock out.  They will tell you.

Making sure everything is in place at closing is very important, and letting the reference workers do their job without pressure will make sure things go smoothly.  Work as a team and things will go a lot faster.

Thanks everyone!
