Texan Card Stolen

Yesterday, we had a situation occur resulting in a student’s Texan Card being stolen by someone pretending to a be a library student worker.

The student was sitting in a study room, reading some library books. A “student worker” knocked on the door and said that the student would need to check the books out if they were going to continue reading in a study room. The “student worker” said that she would take the student's Texan Card to the Circulation Desk to check the books out to the student and the student could pick up their Texan Card from the Circ. Desk whenever they left. The “student worker” returned the books to the student but did not return their Texan Card. When the student came to the Circ. Desk to pick up their Texan Card, the card was nowhere to be found and the books were not checked out to them. The patron who had their card stolen mentioned that this person was wearing a lanyard and looked to be working in the stacks, which is why she thought this was a real employee.

If you see or hear anything like this happening, please report it to Donna immediately and copy Jennifer, Kym, Kim and Ginger on the email. This is NOT procedure.  We are open to the public and anyone is welcome to use our materials in house without checking out a book.

We are concerned that this will continue to happen since the person has already gotten away with it once.

The University Police have been notified and are checking the cameras to see if they can identify the person pretending to the a student worker.

Please let me know if you  have any questions.

Thank you for your assistance in this manner!

Kym
