Walkie Talkie #1 – Reference Desk

Walkie Talkie #2 – Clay/Peggy

Walkie Talkie #3 – Circulation

Walkie Talkie #4 – Circulation

Before you go upstairs, don’t forget to take and sign out a walkie talkie.  During lunch hours, 11:30am and 1:30pm, only one walkie talkie needs to be signed out.

Be sure to call a specific walkie talkie when you need assistance using the Direct Call option.  If I’m in a meeting and there is an emergency where you need to get me, call the #2 walkie talkie and I will step out and call you back.

To make a Direct Call:

·         press the CALL button.

·         An “AL” will appear on the display.

·         Use the up/down arrows to switch off “AL” and find the number of the walkie talkie you wish to page.

·         When the desired number is displayed, press the CALL button one more time to send the direct call.

There should always be one person upstairs with a walkie talkie at all times.  During the daytime when we have three student workers present, if two students are working in the stacks it is ok for each of them to sign out for a walkie talkie and long as it is not between 11:30am and 1:30pm, when staff are generally taking lunch.  It is essential that the student working the front desk has a walkie talkie during this time.  The two students in the stacks need to communicate with each other during lunch periods so they can trade-off the walkie.

To Trade-off a walkie:

·         The student leaving the stacks needs to give the walkie to the student staying upstairs.

·         The student leaving will write “Trade-off” in the Time Returned slot on the log and then sign-out the walkie in the other student’s name.

·         When the second student is done with the walkie, they will write the current time in the Time Returned field beside their name.

For example, if Jennifer was upstairs with walkie #3 and was handing it off to Kym, she’d write Trade-off in the Time Returned slot and sign it out to Kym on the next line.  When Kym returns the walkie, she’d write the current time in the Time Returned field.  The only thing Kym would have written in the log herself is 2:00 pm, indicated in red below.
