Please be extra aware with any books that come back to us, books that are shelved or books that you see while working in the stacks. There have been reports that 2 books that were marked to be shelved got back upstairs that had silverfish. I know it is sometimes hard to tell the difference between a damaged book or just a really old book. So, if you have any hesitation please show it to a supervisor to approve it. Below are some pictures of books that have high damage from silverfish and a live silverfish that was found. And please note that not all books affected by silverfish will be this damaged, however, they still need to be removed so that they do not contaminate any other books. As you can tell from the pictures they especially like "cloth and paper material" books since those are easier for them to eat!
In addition, staff members are still working on sections upstairs on checking for silverfish, so if you are working in the stacks and you see several books laying on the shelf to the side, please leave them. They were pulled aside to be further examined for silverfish and someone will come back for them later.
This is really important, so once you read this please get with Kim or myself to sign off that you have read this. Thanks everyone!
