PROCEDURE CHANGE!!

All STUDENT library fines will now be paid through TEXAN BILL PAY effective immediately.

Today we completed transferring all current fines into the bill pay system.  From now on, students can only pay fines online.  This includes overdue fines, lost item replacements, lost item processing fees, ILL charges, damage charges.

Maker Spot printing bills are the only patron account bills that can be payed in person.  It is a point of service purchase, and therefore is not loaded into bill pay. Please continue to give patrons their receipt in order to claim their purchase upstairs at the Maker Spot.

Users not affected:
  • TexShare
  • Friends of the Library
  • Alumni
  • Retirees
  • Faculty/Staff with ILL fines

Why the change?
The university is eliminating the university holds which traditionally have prevented students from registering for class or receiving their diploma.  Instead, the fines will go on the student's bill.

For the time being, continue to fill out unblock slips.  We will do this for a few weeks to make sure we do not double bill on accident.

How does it work?
First, an overdue item is returned and a bill is made in Sirsi.  Staff receive an email the following morning stating which lists which patrons accrued fines the day before, (Bills accrued between Friday and Sunday will be emailed on Monday morning).  Every morning we will load the new bills into Texan Bill Pay that accrued the previous day.  There is an approximately 24 hour turn around between when the patron brings the item back and having their payment loaded online.

From now on: only a supervisor may take a payment for a overdue, lost etc bill in person.  If a patron insists they absolutely must pay the fine immediately, get a supervisor to handle it.  We do not want to double bill someone in person and online, so we need to make exceptions on a case by case basis.

Similarly, every day staff will run a report to verify what was paid online the day before, and we will then process the bill in Sirsi to clear their library account.

I know this is a weird change and we'll have to be flexible as we adjust to a completely new procedure.  If you have any questions, please ask so we can make sure we charge people properly!
