Shelving

As I was pulling flags tonight, I noticed a few simple mistakes in shelving. For example, where the book was needing to go just one over to the left or the right. So, I wanted to repost this blog that Kim did over the summer that is a great refresher.

Click on pictures to make larger.

Example 1

Some of the time the decimal point is included in the call number label, but sometimes it isn't. It is always understood to be there though.

The incorrectly placed book has a call number of:

HV8073          it should read          HV 8073
F58                                                 .F58

The second line should read as a decimal. Think of it as .58 cents. The yellow arrow shows the correct placement of the book.

Although the .525 seems bigger than .53 it isn't if you look at the number line above.

Look at the examples below.

Remember when shelving, take your time to carefully look at each line.  If you only look at the first 2 lines, then you may accidentally put the book in the wrong place. Also, always feel free to ask questions if you are confused about why a book belongs in a certain place.

Thanks Everyone!
